Mueller has created quite a buzz by adding several hundred highly skilled Italian workers at the company’s Brookshire, Texas facility. From an employer’s viewpoint we have to admit these guys are a sweet deal since they happily work from dawn to dusk without a break and never ask for a dime in return. However before people begin forming the wrong conclusion and ICE sets up a sting operation, we should reveal that these busy bees are just that—honeybees! With the guidance of our Chief Technology Officer Randy Millier, who is an experienced apiarist (beekeeper), we recently set up two hives at the rear of our 10 acre campus. While these two colonies came from Navasota, Texas, they are a gentle breed originally from Italy. In addition to producing honey and wax, bees are an indispensable part of worldwide food production, pollinating the crops mankind depends upon for survival. During the past 70 years, due to viruses, pesticides and other factors the bee population in America has dropped by over 40%, and this is our small contribution to reversing that trend…after all “environmental” is our middle name!
